Cactus Wren Hike @ El Modena Open Space

Sat, July 26, 2025 8AM - 10AM
East Patria Court & North Cannon Street, Orange, CA 92869
MUST SECURE RSVP: CALL 714-639-8480 or EMAIL jrobinson@naturalist-for-you.org with # in party to confirm participation.

Join Barefoot Joel on a steep adventure up a volcanic, cactus laden hill for a chance to find the rare and elusive coastal cactus wren. We'll also search for California gnatcatcher, roadrunner and quail. Listen for songs and calls. Stop frequently to observe, appreciate and identify birds, other wildlife and plants. Full sun exposure. If it is a clear day, enjoy a panoramic view of the mountains, Orange Heights project site, Catalina island and the Hollywood Sign at the highest point. Roughly 1-3 miles round trip, depending on interest of group. Few hundred feet of elevation gain. Carry plenty of water and lunch to enjoy along the way. Dirt single track trail features uneven and sections of steep terrain with loose rocks. It is not recommended for those with mobility issues or vertigo.

WHERE: Meet at intersection of E Patria Ct and N Cannon St. Park on the street in the neighborhood.
