BioBlitz @ Orange Hills

Sat, September 6, 2025 10AM - 4PM
MUST SECURE RSVP: CALL 714-639-8480 or EMAIL jrobinson@naturalist-for-you.orgwith # in party to confirm details and participation.

It’s Biodiversity Week, so grab your smartphone, digital camera and binoculars and help us record observations of bugs, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, plants and fungi in the Orange foothills around the perimeter of the 400-acre wildlife corridor and prehistoric Native American village site between Irvine Regional Park and Peters Canyon Regional Park.

BioBlitz is a fun community science event that is open to everyone. You don't have to join us the whole day. You can start any time. We want to record as many species as possible. Each photo and sound recording can then be uploaded to the free iNaturalist app and support our efforts to preserve our remaining undeveloped natural area at the gateway to the Santa Ana Mountains.

ATTENTION BIRDERS: You're welcome to start much earlier in the morning (sunrise) and meet us at 10AM in the Albertsons parking lot to share observations you recorded.

Taking Part is Easy

Complete the Challenge in Four Steps:

Join the Orange Heights Proposed Development Site project on iNaturalist (download the free app from Google Play or the App Store.)

Upload at least 10 observations total

Upload 3 or more observations of indicator species (organisms whose presence, absence, or abundance reflects specific environmental conditions, helping scientists assess the health of ecosystems.)

Upload at least 1 observation in a data cold spot (area where less observations have been submitted)

Share your experience by using #OrangeHillsBioBlitz. You can take part as a family, with your friends, your classmates, or do it by yourself.
